Mernoth - Political Map

A map of the Kingdom of Mernoth situated within the southern central portion of the continent of Fayrenneth.

The Realm of Mernoth is one of the oldest nation states in central Fayrenneth.

The kingdom is an amalgamation of the several ancient Clans of the Clenach race who have lived in the area since the mid part of the 47th Age.

Generally autonomous and living independently, the kingdom as it exists today came into being with the rise of the Cellebrian Empire and it’s violently expansionist policies forced the Clans in the eastern side of the Sea of the Kelpies to band together to resist this aggression, culminating in the formation of the kingdom around 12,212 47th Age under King Cherann Goulghachan, the then Chieftain (or self styled King) of the Argyerhrighean. His seat of power, Tirr an Seckrand remains the capital and power base of the Arwain of Mernoth to this day.

Currently little occupied with the War of Rulership but lending some large numbers of mercenary troops to it's neighbours who are involved, Mernoths' main point of attention is to the west and it's plans for limited expansion in that direction.

Tollandor - Political Map

The erstwhile Kingdom of Tollandor, situated in south eastern portion of the continent of Fayrenneth is one of the group of young kingdoms which sprang up after the demise of the Celebrian Empire three or four hundred years ago.

The kingdom having always had close political and cultural ties with the Lornian Empire to the south east, has fallen into the arms of the Lornian Empire following the demise of the last king and his heir fighting with their allies at the Battle of the Mrackinair Hills. The kingdom is currently a Protectorate of the Lornian's until a new king can put on the throne.

The realm has suffered severely over the last four years of war and is trying to recover from the ravages of the conflict with a growing movement internally, to separate themselves from the Lornian's and the war.

New Campaign Map

Northern Wars Campaign Map
I've been working on a re-vamped (close detail) campaign map for the War of Rulership campaign which I have now finished.

With a high resolution and multiple layers I can edit, alter boundaries and zoom in and produce detail maps to my hearts content.

I'm now going to transpose a separate layer for army and troop positions and movements and the campaign action can notch up a gear.

With the progress on the campaign pretty slow but steady the first winter is drawing to close and things are hotting up with a few surprises, even for me (which is nice) so reports on the War will finally begin to appear soon.

Lornian Assault Trooper

This soldier is a Lornian Assault Trooper and is a member of the Imperial retinue.

An elite body who are formed from other Imperial regiments from time to time, usually on campaign and are drawn from the best and most proficient men available at the time.

Formed into small heavily armed and armoured units, it is the job of these soldiers to storm fortifications and breaches in defense's and break enemy formations on the battlefield.

The pavaise the warrior carries has the Cheansachad Imperial colour's of black, white and red and bears the device of the white tower, one of the emblems of the Queen, signifying his membership of the White Leopards, one of the Imperial Household regiments.

These bands of assault troops are often picked from the younger noblesse and are rightly feared by their foes for their courage and fierceness in the breach. This elan is largely a factor of that if they are victorious and survive their 'promotion' to the often fatal posting, they can expect great rewards and field promotion if they do.

The units of assault troops are usually temporary formations and are stood down after assault's or occassionally at the end of campaign's.

Pell Warrior

This time we have a drawing from '84 of a Pell Warrior (a Thourrgruhu).

A race of Saurian creatures who originated from the southern sea-board of Kairell but over several migrations in huge numbers the Pell moved and now occupy regions of north-western Tir-Mor and in the south east extending into the island reaches west of Aldoras.

Existing in large clan based hordes, their numbers have declined over recent centuries from their peak during the Age of the Deathlords, with Pellandria now being the largest population centre of the species, the realm getting it's name from these doughty people.

Errinian Foot Knight

Another old sketch resurrected, this time of an Errinian Foot Knight.

Depicting a Foot Knight of Krynar descent, these peoples make up the backbone of the Errinian forces and are enthusiastic in their support of the ruling Dragon Lords.

Ferren Myoch, located in the north east of Errin on the Lornian Empire border, and part of Ellenshermall Duthaich (Province or territory), the area being well known for the quality of it's infantry, many of whom hire themselves out as mercenaries, or more accurately condotterie, to their Lornian neighbours in particular.

The sketch was done back in '84 and was always a favourite of mine. I had intended to do a colour version of this sketch and I may now get around to this with the aid of technology.

War of Rulership Campaign 001

War of Rulership Campaign Map
So it begins, the War of Rulership campaign. The war that will bring death, defeat and an ending to some, a glorious victory and overlordship to others.

It is the year 747( Lornian Calender), or the year 12,838 of the 47th Age of Cataclysms, and the war of Rulership as it has come to be known has raged across the face of Alba for four years, and will bring the Age to an ending before long.

With the conflict slowly escalating from major border skirmishes between the Lornian Empire and the Moon an Dorians, coupled with ongoing border disputes between Tollandor, Dalriada, Mernoth, Elistan, Mor and Cellebria in the north, and Errin and Pellandria in the south, along with growing pressure from the Nomad peoples of Fayrenneth and Erchmairenn, the strife soon boiled over into open warfare.

The war has ebbed and flowed for the last four long years with the Tollandorian ruling family being wiped out and their fellow Clenach, the Lornians, subsuming these lands into the Empire for 'protection' and Mon an Dor losing huge swathes of its southern territories to the Lornians after the epic battle of the Mrackinair Hills.

The Errinians are on the back foot after a string of surprising defeats to the Pellandrians, and the northern realms having fought each other to a standstill now face growing incursions from the Serwhon and Nierkesh Nomads, and to the east Terrifeth stands alone against an  equally belligerant Meshirrakand.

A lull, forced on by political and physical exhaustion has settled on the combatants, as all draw breath and attempt to manoeuvre into better positions, as several other players circle the cock-pit to see if any advantage can be picked up from the on coming struggle sure to erupt again.=
---------------------------
The map above shows the initial areas of control for the major players in the coming campaign.

All the players are set and the dice are ready to roll on what promises to be an interesting and rewarding campaign.

The campaign will be played largely on paper/online with the major or critical events being played out on the table top, both skirmish and battle.

Small Update

Lornian Reiver of Magon Karon
Haven't been able to get much concrete progress on the things of an Alba nature for ages, but thought I'd get a note down on what progress has been made.

The work on the campaign has moved on a couple of small steps  as far as the organisation and rules for the bigger picture is concerned, but not any on the maps but I should rectify this over the next couple of weeks.

Some small progress on troops (figures) for the Lornian armies has been made, concentrating on the Northern Lornian troops mainly but again more sorting out figures and so on.

I've gone through the mass of material that I produced fore Alba and going through it after a fair number of years, it was like discovering it all over again, which was like coming home. I did see that I was not happy to reproduce the vast proportion of it as I feel it is not in a state to publish or really reproduce as it stands. The bulk of the material being hand written ( in my rather stylised script that I did back then) and drawn and a big amount of it is showing the signs of age.

The upshot of this is that I will need to re-do the bulk of it in a form I'm happy with. This will need to be planned out and see what is worth re-doing and what can be discarded and what re-done. This will need to be revisited, but there is every chance that other than the map project, which stands by it's self, the focus will be, for obvious reasons (at least to myself) the Empire of Lorn.

The main drive which has had tangible results to date, has been on the book. A plot line has been sorted out and the majority of the characters have been decided upon. The opening chapter has been set both in location and structure so I aim to get busy with some writing over the next few weeks to actually get some words down and get this going.

Alba World Map

Not having huge amounts of time available, my updates on all things Lornian have been a bit remiss of late. I have recently managed to get the first 'draft' as it were of the colour version of the Alba World map

ALBA
The map shows the area largely used for previous D&D campaigns from many moons ago and encompasses the majority of the area with the Barriers. (The enitrety of that will be another map in the fullness of time).

Having got this map done it can now form the bases of future, more detailed maps which all help delineate the concepts.

A illustration of this is the map produced detailing the area to be used for my Solo Campaign for the Northern theatre of the War of Rulership.

Campaign Theatre
Things start to take a bit of shape.

The other progress I've made is again a tidy up of an old map which details the various provinces and Dukedoms etc of the Lornian Empire which should be complete shortly.

In the Beginning....

The World of Alba
The map of Alba that I used as the basis of all that came after. The main continents are depicted in outline and a grid super-imposed over to delineate the sub maps which go into more detail of the relevant area.

There are a total of 169 of these sub-maps, some with more detail than others. Now that I have the technology, technology that I would have died for when I was making these maps, I can look at resurrecting the maps, repair damage and wear and tare and update and in some cases complete the maps that have been done to date.

Steps to a Goal

I have now taken the first steps to doing something concrete.

I have finally got around to collecting all the old files, maps and folders together and seeing what was what and have gone over the material at hand.

There is a lot there but not as much as I originally thought. It seems a lot more than I had realised was in my head rather than being written down.

The first thing I am going to do therefore is to get some notes down on what I can still remember that isn't already. That unfortunately won't take too long.

I have also made steps towards organising the solo campaign, but early days there too.

Musings on Strategic Level

Still no progress to report, but have been having thoughts on all sorts of topics.

Still planning on starting a Solo Wargames campaign, probably to be set in the northern realms, but need to get pen to paper on that one. The mechanisms for gaming are just about in place but still in the early stages just yet.

I have also been thinking seriously about putting pen to paper perhaps in a more meaningful way, by way of a book. That will be a long term project, but I'm determined to give it a good try. See if there is truth in the adage that everyone has a least one book in them.

Have also been thinking about being creative in another way, namely artwork. Probably in the way of illustrations rather than anything too grandiose but this one might need more in the way of a visiting muse to stir the blood, but again, you never know.

Anyway, watch this space....now and again at least to see if there has been any progress to report.

Quiet but nice

No progress on things Lornian but been having a few thoughts on solo campaign.

Not decided yet what I'm going to do, but have decided on scope which will need to be limited to say six states as a maximum. Will need to decide which ones.
